Non Breeders

Shadowberry’s Alder

While Alder is a beautiful animal, and attracts much attention due to his outgoing personality, his fleece is not what we want to see in a breeding animal and he was gelded this spring.  It is a disappointment that he has not inherited the excellent fleece qualities of both his parents, but we know that breeding outcomes cannot always be reliably predicted.

We anticipate that Alder will be a wonderful PR guy for our farm.  At shows he would often have repeat visitors to his pen.  As one visitor put it, “he’s the only animal here that will come up to me."

Our Llamas

No description of our herd would be complete without including our guard llamas.  They are very special to us as valuable members of our little camelid community.

Ella, at 17 years of age, is a wise old girl.  Always aware of her surroundings, she is most content when she is in a pasture with a clear view of the road. We love her dearly and hope that she will be with us for at least a few more years.  While she is graying, she is quite spry and requires no special supplements for her joints.

Blackjack is our boys' llama. He is very sweet, very quiet.  We acquired him to be a companion for our weanling boys and he is constantly with them.  Calm, unobtrusive, always watchful.
